Chinese sellers on Russian marketplaces: Wildberries, Ozon and Yandex Market — tax and operational guide 2026

Chinese companies on Wildberries and Ozon 2026: LLC vs cross-border model, VAT 22%, customs, Chestny ZNAK labelling and CNY repatriation.

tw.

Russia's e-commerce market reached RUB 8.2 trillion in 2025. Wildberries and Ozon account for approximately 65% of online retail. Chinese-origin goods dominate electronics, clothing, tools and household categories. For Chinese companies, selling through Russian marketplaces requires navigating a specific regulatory framework around VAT, customs clearance, digital labelling and currency repatriation.

Two structural models

Model A — Cross-border: Chinese company ships to Russia; marketplace operator handles VAT (22%) as tax agent. No Russian legal entity required. Lower control, no input VAT recovery, limited ability to build distribution. Best for testing the market.

Model B — Russian LLC: Chinese company establishes ООО which imports and sells. Full VAT recovery on imports; ability to repatriate profits at 10% WHT (China DTT); complete operational control. Required for serious market presence.

Customs and VAT at import

Chestny ZNAK mandatory labelling

Russia's digital labelling system covers: clothing, footwear, electronics (selected), perfumes, dairy, tobacco, medicines, tyres. Any seller of labelled goods must register in Chestny ZNAK and attach digital codes before goods enter the marketplace warehouse. Non-compliance results in goods being refused and potential administrative penalties. Registration is mandatory before first shipment — not something that can be arranged after arrival.

Platform comparison

CNY repatriation from marketplace revenue

Revenue arrives as RUB. Repatriation: declare dividend → WHT 10% (China DTT) → convert RUB to CNY on Moscow Exchange → transfer via CIPS through Bank of China Russia or ICBC Russia to Chinese parent. See RMB payments guide for full process.

For sustained marketplace presence, the Russian LLC model (Model B) is necessary. Chestny ZNAK compliance must be in place before first shipment. Ozon's Chinese seller programme provides the most direct support for Chinese companies entering the Russian marketplace ecosystem.
